What is a Black Swan Event?
A “black-swan” event is often associated with fat tail distributions. A black swan event can be described as an unexpected movement in price or data point beyond what would normally be predicted using traditional statistical tools. A “black-swan” event derives its name from the occurrence of Black-Swan birds in Australia, prior to which it was believed that all swans were white in color.
